Supply Branch
The Department of Food and Civil Supplies was established in March 1965 by separating the Supply Department from the Agriculture, Food, and Cooperation Department. In December 1977, the management of weights and measures was transferred from the Department of Industries, Energy, and Labor to the control of the Civil Supplies Department. This department primarily manages the demand and supply of essential commodities in open trade and controls matters related to the Public Distribution System. The department’s main responsibility is to stabilize prices by implementing various control orders under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, and to enforce the Food Security Act.
